When you step inside MediLodge of Richmond,
you’ll know
you’re in a special place.
Describing the building has to include how the building “feels.” The
best description we can come up with is that it’s like your
grandparents’ house and a small town
rolled into one. It’s friendly. People sit and visit. Staff
members look you in the eye, smile, and say “hello.” Homemade
artwork—created by residents and local schoolchildren—hangs
on the walls. People are chatting, laughing, holding hands, listening
to each other, and doing all sorts of interesting things. It’s
some place you’ll want to see for yourself.
To give you a glimpse of what you might find on any given day,
here are some of the activities that we enjoy:

Residents have a
lifetime of collecting treasures-things like
the crafts you made in 5th grade art class, homemade ornaments,
and family traditions. Holidays mean something different to each
person, and we encourage them to share by bringing in their favorite
things, especially at special times of the year. With all these
different decorations, it might look like a hodge-podge to someone
else, but to our residents, it looks and feels more like home.

Each year,
we sponsor a craft show that draws local vendors who offer their
creations to our residents and members of the community. It has
become such a popular event that people line up outside our doors,
waiting to get in, even before we "open for business." Our
residents have a ball, selling homemade goodies, making crafts,
buying holiday gifts, and enjoying the crowds. It's an event that
none of our residents or their families want to miss!

Sweet potato casserole, bread
and butter pickles, apple crisp, gingersnaps, homemade bread...
homey, comfort foods that recollect life in small town America are
what our residents fed their families and shared at their church
suppers. Our Resident Dining Council collected their recipes—and
a lot of their wisdom-to create a cookbook. It's not
gourmet, but you
will love the delicious recipes you will find inside. Ask us for
a copy—if you love to cook, there are some
real goodies to try! And soon, you'll be able to get our second
edition. don't miss it!

Everyone
needs a little change of scenery once in a while. Our residents
love to “go to town” for
shopping, dining, and little errands. They also like going to the
movies, having picnics, and checking out the local color at special
events like the Goodells 4-H Fair.
Want to learn more about what we do? Ask the
Activities Director for a copy of the monthly
calendar. Family
members and friends are always welcome to come and participate
in any of our activities—your
family member would love to see you and we would, too. You'll also
want to pick up a copy of our Resident-created newsletter. In it
you'll find stories about the people who live here, a recipe, games,
and friendly notes from our staff. You won't want to miss it!
