A typical room includes an adjustable bed with linens, a chair for visitors,
a bedside table, a dresser, a closet, and a bathroom. Each room has a view
of the expansive, park-like grounds. Residents are encouraged to bring in
treasured photos and other small items, as well as their favorite quilt or
afghan. Smoking is not permitted in the building.

Residents are offered a variety of homemade foods including homemade soups, and fresh-baked breads. Residents choose from a menu of two choices for each meal. For a nominal fee, guests are welcome to join residents for any meal, just give us a call to let us know you’re coming.

For residents with specific nutritional needs, we provide dietary planning by our in-house registered dietician. All MediLodge dieticians participate in ongoing training in the latest research and techniques for assisting our aging population.
For those residents who need a little help during meals, we provide
restorative dining therapy with each meal. This allows residents
to participate in mealtimes while receiving the nutritious
food, eating assistance, and encouragement that often helps them recover
their functioning more quickly.

We realize that family and resident involvement is the key
to a positive experience at MediLodge of Richmond. Our
staff works closely with residents and families from admission
to discharge, helping each person according to their individual
needs. Arrangements for obtaining needed adaptive equipment, clothing, and
personal items are also provided.

Staff nurses provide clinical assessment, medication administration,
wound treatment, assistance with IVs, dementia care, and
palliative end-of-life care. Staff nurses maintain open communication
with attending physicians to allow prompt intervention as
physical conditions may change. Nursing staff includes RNs,
LPNs, and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs)..

MediLodge of Richmond offers specialized respiratory
therapy for persons needing assistance with breathing conditions.
This treatment includes oxygen and oxygen monitoring, suctioning,
and breathing treatments.

Our board-certified physical, occupational, and speech
therapists help residents rehabilitate as much as possible. We
maintain a large therapy team so that we can make individual
rehabilitation plans for each resident, track their progress,
and discuss therapeutic goals with each person’s family.
In addition, our nursing, activity, and social services teams
work closely with our therapists to ensure that each resident
receives coordinated, holistic attention designed to help them
improve throughout every day of their stay.

As an adjunct to skilled therapy, restorative nursing
offers services to promote independence via programs such
as movement, range of motion exercises, and restorative dining.
In addition, residents in our restorative therapy
program participate in “Sensory Group,” a session
designed to relax and soothe people who are working hard
to regain their functioning. Activities in these sessions
include aromatherapy, hand massage, and quiet music that
work together to provide a sense of well-being.

Rooms are cleaned daily and
fresh linens are provided two times per week or as needed.
Personal laundry services are provided for residents at no
additional charge.
Our residents have therapeutic and interesting activities scheduled and available
seven days per week throughout the day and into the evening.
These activities
are chosen based on input from our Resident Activity Council, a group who meets
regularly to select activities for all residents to enjoy. Most activities
are based on current resident interests and previously enjoyed leisure pursuits,
lifestyle, and hobbies. Loneliness and boredom are not options at our facility.

Residents with Alzheimer's Disease or related dementia need
a little extra help navigating the routines of daily life.
Predictability, structure, and familiar faces help ease their
confusion and anxiety, making their days calmer and more
enjoyable. This is what our S.W.A.N.s program is all about.
S.W.A.N.s provides a consistent daily schedule of activities
from morning to evening, in a cozy, more intimate space with
staff who have advanced training in meeting the needs of
this special population. This approach helps residents with
dementia maintain their current level of functioning longer
and enjoy their days a little more.
